Video surveillance, building access, emergency communications and sensors are connected through Genetec Security Center across seven Newark Central School District buildings in New York, according to the company.
The district expanded its use of Genetec Security Center with integrator Convergint to consolidate systems previously managed separately. The project was intended to give personnel a more complete view of building activity and support coordinated incident response.
Genetec reported that vaping incidents decreased by about 93%. When a sensor detects possible vaping, the platform flags the event for review and alerts administrators and the school resource officer to investigate.
The system also sends designated personnel alerts with associated video to help them evaluate incidents. Centralized monitoring and lockdown procedures support coordination during emergencies, the company said.
The district serves about 1,800 students and nearly 600 staff members. Its deployment encompasses more than 400 cameras, 200 doors, 500 cardholders and 30 vaping sensors, along with several cameras equipped for automatic license plate recognition.
A connection to Microsoft Active Directory assigns employees building access according to their roles, reducing manual administration and helping maintain current permissions.
The district kept its existing cameras and introduced improvements in stages to control costs. A continuing agreement with Convergint provides remote assistance, maintenance and onsite support. The platform also allows the district to add technologies as its needs evolve.
