Addressing Active Shooter Threats: A Layered Approach to Campus Safety

Date: Tuesday, November 10, 2026 at 2:00pm ET - 1:00pm CT - 11:00am PT

Active shooter threats can occur at a school or campus site, during an event or field trip, or while students are participating in a study abroad program. For campus security professionals, preparing for these threats requires more than physical security measures. It demands a coordinated, sustainable approach that brings together leadership, security personnel and other key stakeholders.

This webinar will explore a layered approach to addressing active shooter threats through three stages: prepare and prevent, respond and manage, and transition and recover. The discussion will examine how these stages provide a framework for developing and sustaining tactical, operational and strategic security, resilience and crisis management measures.

But what does an effective, integrated approach look like in practice? Beyond physical security measures, effective leadership, clearly defined and communicated plans and protocols, stakeholder coordination, training, exercises and appropriate resources all play a critical role.

Join us as we examine how these elements work together to help educational institutions identify threats, prevent or reduce risks, protect students, staff and families, support effective recovery and reduce potential reputational harm.
