Lauren McCluskey Foundation Hosts Annual Race for Campus Safety

Washington State University event supports trauma-informed law enforcement training and institutional security reforms.

The Lauren McCluskey Foundation will host its annual Race for Campus Safety on Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Washington State University Pullman campus to raise awareness and support for higher education security reforms.

Proceeds and community engagement from the event support the foundation's strategic initiatives, which include developing trauma-informed training courses for campus law enforcement, establishing standardized Campus Safety Scores and expanding the adoption of "Lauren's Promise"—a pledge for university personnel to respond effectively when students report stalking or relationship violence.

The event features 1K, 5K and 10K races beginning at the WSU College of Veterinary Medicine parking lot. The 1K starts at 10 a.m., followed by the 10K at 10:30 a.m. and the 5K at 10:40 a.m. Family-friendly activities will follow the races, and a free self-defense course led by licensed SASS Go instructors will take place at 1 p.m. at the Marriott Residence Inn.

The foundation was created following the 2018 death of Lauren McCluskey, a University of Utah student-athlete from Pullman who was killed after reporting stalking and harassment to campus police. The organization works directly with higher education institutions, victim advocates and public safety departments to reform institutional responses to campus violence.

Registration and volunteer information are available through the foundation's official website.
