Brown Relocates Campus Public Safety to Three New Sites

A 24-hour station and community desk will accompany a larger administrative facility in Providence.

Brown University will move its Department of Public Safety and Emergency Management into three new locations across College Hill and Providence's Jewelry District, with the move expected to be complete in summer 2027.

The department's administrative, dispatch and operational teams will relocate to 110 Elm St., a building the university recently purchased. On College Hill, the department will open a 24-hour station at 205 Meeting St. and a community desk in the Stephen Robert '62 Campus Center.

The Elm Street building will expand the department's core administrative space by more than 40% and add emergency vehicle parking, evidence-processing areas and training space. The Meeting Street station will handle walk-in reports, fingerprinting and lost-and-found.

Brown expects both College Hill sites to open in late spring 2027, with the Elm Street move following in June.

Brown said most officers work at posts and on patrols across campus rather than in public safety buildings, and the distributed sites support a decentralized, community-oriented approach. The department will leave its 1967 headquarters at 75 Charlesfield St., which Brown said limits the department's ability to welcome community members and host large training exercises.
