California Student Threatens Principal on Social Media in Efforts to Get School Cancelled

A Montebello high school student was arrested after posting a threat against his principal to social media in an attempt to stay home from school Tuesday, officers said.

A 16-year-old student was arrested after he attempted to get Vail High School officials to cancel school for the day by posting a threat against the principal on Snapchat.

The Montebello Police Department stated the threat was noticed by a “concerned parent” whose child also attended the high school.

After detectives questioned the 16-year-old resident of Los Angeles, they determined there was not a credible threat.

The 16-year-old male was charged with suspicion of making a criminal threat against the principal, according to a news release.

The fake threat comes days after the Saugus High School shooting where two students and the 16-year-old gunman died.

The Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives and school resource deputies said they spent the weekend investigating “multiple false threats against local schools.”
