High School Lockdown Following Discovery of Live Ammo on Campus

A magazine filled with live ammunition prompted a lockdown at a Colorado Springs high school.

Police in Colorado Springs, Colo. were called to Harrison High School this week after a teacher found a magazine found with live ammunition as school was starting. The students were placed in lockdown as police swat the school for a weapon.

"There was no tip," Harrison School District Security Director John Taylor said. "It was actually just a teacher stumbling across it. It was found in one of the hallways along where the lockers are. As you can guess, that was the first area we went through."

Taylor said the loaded magazine was just laying on the ground.

Police did not find a weapon upon the first sweep of the school and even checked students that were present and their backpacks as well as their pockets. Teachers and other staff were searched as well.

Out of an abundance of caution, the school remained closed the following day. Police and security staff will begin an investigation into how the magazine made it on to campus and try to connect it with its owner.
