A global systems integrator is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its annual companywide service day by launching a new grant program aimed at upgrading security infrastructure for underserved K-12 schools.
Convergint closed its worldwide operations for a full business day to allow nearly 11,000 employees, family members and industry partners to participate in volunteer efforts. Operating across 37 countries, the initiative is expected to contribute an estimated 60,000 hours of community service.
As part of this year's efforts, the company expanded its Secure, Train, Educate, Protect (STEP) Up for Schools initiative. The program now features a structured grant framework designed to assist underfunded school districts that lack the resources to modernize their security technology.
For the current cycle, the company and its technology partners awarded 20 grants to K-12 schools across the United States. The funding covers a range of campus security needs, including the installation of access control systems, surveillance cameras, environmental and vape sensors, preventative maintenance, fire alarm inspections and comprehensive risk assessments.
Launched in 2018, the school safety initiative has assisted more than 175 campuses through donated security deployments, site assessments and volunteer-led projects. While a typical project yields approximately $25,000 in donated hardware and labor, organizers noted that several flagship installations have exceeded $250,000 in value.
Since the inception of the school safety program, the firm estimates it has provided more than $7 million in equipment, services and technical expertise to educational institutions globally.
