A project by Ohio University to add more than 400 security cameras to the residence halls on its Athens campus is nearing completion. According to a project update from the university, the installation may be finished as early as May 1.

The security project, which totals almost $1.1 million, will add an indoor and outdoor camera “at every exterior point of egress to the dorms,” said Steve Wood, the university’s chief facilities management officer.

“There are additional indoor cameras in lobbies and staff rooms as well,” Wood said. “This would bring the total number of cameras on campus to approximately 800.”

According to Wood, OU has allocated about $210,000 for third-party support and other fees related to the camera installation. Costs for in-house staff labor and materials for the project total about $850,000.
