Security Expanded After Bomb Threats at Several Jewish Community Centers
Only two months into the New Year and several Jewish community centers across the nation have been experiencing bombs threats. This has caused many of these centers to work on increasing their security.
With four bomb threats in just 5 weeks, Jewish community centers are working to make their campuses more secure. According to news reports, these threats were made to facilities in Birmingham, Ala.; St. Paul, Minn.; Houston, Texas; and Buffalo, N.Y. Some of the centers were evacuated, and some were not, but security was at the forefront of each plan. So far, it is believed that it is the same person who has made all the threats.
Paul Goldenberg, director of Secure Community Network (an affiliate of the Jewish Federations of North America), said his office is “monitoring the situation.” He also stated that all of the Jewish community centers are well-equipped to handle threats such as these.
Some of these threats were made on President’s Day.
48 Jewish community centers across 26 states, and even one in Canada, have received more than 50 bomb threats – in January alone.
