University of New Mexico Sets Campus Safety Week Events
The annual safety initiative features a police headquarters opening, campus safety walks, resource fairs and a university summit.

The University of New Mexico will host its annual Campus Safety Week Sept. 14–18, offering a series of workshops, security walks, resource fairs and interactive presentations for students, faculty and staff.
The weeklong initiative aligns with National Campus Safety Awareness Month, a federal campaign designated by Congress in 2008 to encourage safety education, crime prevention and preparedness across higher education institutions nationwide.
Activities begin Sept. 14 with a kickoff presentation at the Arcoíris Center. Highlights of the week include the formal ribbon-cutting and grand opening of the new UNM Police Department headquarters Sept. 15, followed by public tours of the new facility.
The university will host safety fairs on both Central and North campuses, organized by the Crisis Management and Preparedness department. Administrators and safety officials will also lead evening safety walks across campus grounds to identify potential physical security vulnerabilities and dark or hazardous areas.
The annual Campus Safety Summit will take place Sept. 17 in the Student Union Building, with a live-stream option available for remote participants. The summit will bring together representatives from university administration, campus law enforcement, the Women's Resource Center, Parking and Transportation Services, and the Office of Compliance, Ethics and Equal Opportunity to present on safety resources and policy updates.
The week concludes Sept. 18 with an open house at the new police headquarters building.
