A California-based security company has unveiled a retractable bulletproof shelter designed to protect students and teachers inside classrooms during active threat lockdowns.
The Deployable Ballistic Shelter, developed by Stronghold Systems, functions as an in-classroom protection zone during the initial minutes of an emergency. The units remain stowed out of the way during normal daily activities but can be activated via in-room or front-office controls.
Once triggered, a synchronized multi-motor system deploys ballistic fiberglass panels into position in less than 20 seconds. The panels are constructed from material rated to resist multiple rifle rounds under national safety standards.
The system operates independently of building power, campus network connectivity or third-party integrations to ensure the protective barrier functions during a utility or network outage.
Stronghold Systems is launching pilot evaluations of the technology and is seeking school participants in Southern California.
