Shooting Near Rutgers University Kills Two, Injures Six

Two people died and six others were injured in a shooting early Sunday morning near Rutgers University, reports the Bridgewater Courier News.

Police responded to the area before 1:20 a.m. and found eight people with gunshot wounds.

Rutgers Police Chief Kenneth Cop said in a statement an unknown suspect fired several shots at a house party. Even though the shooting took place a few blocks away from the university, the investigation has determined it has no affiliation with Rutgers University or its students.

Rutgers University sent an alert about the shooting to students around 2:30 a.m. telling them to stay away from the area.

A home security video obtained by the New York Times shows a car stopping in the middle of the road and four men quickly exiting the car and shooting into an area that's not captured on video. They run back into the car and speed away.

The investigation is ongoing and being handled by the New Brunswick Police Department and Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
