Southwest Washington Leaders Launch Online Threat Safety Campaign

Law enforcement and school districts introduce an initiative encouraging people to report online threats rather than sharing them.

Law enforcement agencies, school districts and community partners across Southwest Washington joined forces to unveil a new regional school safety initiative aimed at changing how the public handles digital threat reports.

The campaign, titled "Report, Don't Repost: Choose Care Over Clicks," addresses the growing challenge of online school threats. Public safety officials emphasized that sharing or reposting threat content on social media channels often hinders active investigations, spreads viral panic and complicates official emergency responses. Instead, the campaign directs community members to immediately report suspicious or concerning online content directly to law enforcement authorities and district safety platforms.

Organizers held a collaborative media briefing in Vancouver to present the educational outreach effort. Representatives from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, local police departments, emergency response agencies and public school systems gathered alongside student representatives to answer questions regarding reporting procedures and digital awareness.

Participating agencies plan to distribute campaign assets across regional schools and social media channels to educate parents, students and educators on proper protocol when encountering potential safety threats online.
