Higher education technology provider Illumia and access control manufacturer HID expanded a partnership aimed at simplifying mobile credential adoption across college campuses.
The agreement integrates HID mobile credential support into IDX, Illumia’s cloud-based platform. The technology was previously available only through CS Gold, the company’s on-premises campus card management system.
The integration allows higher education institutions using CS Gold to transition mobile credentials to the IDX platform without replacing installed door hardware. By preserving existing reader infrastructure, universities can decouple software modernization from physical access overhauls, lowering migration costs and reducing operational disruption.
Industry research points to growing demand for cloud-based campus infrastructure, with a 2025 study by Illumia and Hanover Research indicating that 80% of higher education institutions plan to migrate core systems to the cloud within two years. The updated agreement allows administrators to transition to cloud management at their own pace while maintaining current physical security configurations.
