Local school officials are enhancing security measures and mental health support across all campuses following a tragic shooting at a school in Bend.
Baker School District 5J administrators announced heightened collaboration with the Baker City Police Department, the Baker County Sheriff’s Office and local school resource officers to increase law enforcement visibility at district facilities.
Along with a heightened security presence, district leadership and campus administrators are reviewing emergency response practices, building access protocols and overall safety procedures.
District leaders are also deploying school counselors and student support teams to assist students and staff experiencing fear or anxiety. Administrators urged parents and staff to monitor children for emotional distress and report any potential safety threats to school officials or law enforcement using state and local tip lines.
District officials emphasized that maintaining a safe learning environment relies on proactive safety evaluations, strong community partnerships and open communication among families, staff and first responders.
