Heath City Schools Adds AI Gun Detection Technology

An Ohio district with four campuses has integrated AI threat detection software to monitor camera feeds for visible weapons.

A public school district in central Ohio has deployed artificial intelligence software across its security camera network to detect visible firearms and provide real-time alerts to emergency responders.

Heath City School District, located in Licking County, integrated the technology from threat intelligence firm ZeroEyes across its four school buildings. The district serves approximately 1,600 students and 250 staff members across two elementary schools, a middle school and a high school.

The software layers directly onto existing digital security cameras. When the AI detects a visible firearm on camera, it routes images to a U.S.-based operations center staffed around the clock by military and law enforcement veterans.

If human analysts verify a threat, the system dispatches alerts to local law enforcement and school administrators. Notifications include visual descriptions of the individual, the type of firearm detected and the last known location, typically delivered within seconds of detection.

The software joins a broader campus security infrastructure that includes door access control systems, door barricades, protective window films and monitored security cameras.
