Dallas College El Centro Police Officer Shot in Downtown Dallas

A Dallas College El Centro Campus police officer was shot in downtown Dallas Thursday evening.

The incident occurred when four campus police officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle near campus, reports a local news station. The suspect had a warrant out for his arrest. The shooting began when officers tried to arrest the suspect. There was an exchange of gunfire. Two of the officers were involved in the shooting, but only one was shot.

The officer’s injuries are non-life-threatening and was taken to a hospital, Dallas police said. The suspect is in critical condition and was also taken to a hospital.

"The Dallas College community is saddened to learn of an officer-involved shooting that took place near our El Centro campus this evening," college officials said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the officer and his family during this difficult time."

The incident was captured on body cameras and an area security camera. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
