School districts across Ohio can apply for a share of $9.01 million in grants to support safety projects during the 2027-28 school year, Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson announced.
The program offers two funding options. One provides $2,500 per organization or $4.50 per student, whichever amount is higher. The other offers up to $40,000 per organization, regardless of the enrollment figure.
Districts can pursue either option or both. The program distributes funding in application order until it exhausts available money. Applications close May 28, 2027.
Schools can purchase silent panic alarms, gunshot detection systems and technology that gives responding officers immediate camera access. Other eligible expenses include certification training for school resource officers, active shooter response preparation and training to recognize and help students experiencing mental health concerns, among other uses.
Districts can access applications through the Ohio School Safety Center and Ohio Grants Portal.
