News outlets report that two minors were arrested on Wednesday, Dec. 8, in connection with a September shooting at a Kentucky bus stop that left a 16-year-old boy dead. On Sept. 22, 2021, a vehicle drove by a bus stop in Louisville, Ky., and gunshots were fired that killed Tyree Smith as he was waiting for the school bus at about 6:30 a.m. Two other students waiting for the bus were also injured, police reported.
The suspects were arrested Wednesday on charges including complicity to murder and complicity to first-degree assault, said the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department at a press conference. The suspects’ names were not released.
“We should not be standing here today. And we simply must do better as a community,” said Chief Erika Shields at the press conference. “To the family of Tyree Smith, I’m sorry we’re here, but hopefully—in some small way—the arrests of your son’s murderers will bring you some relief.”
Officials said that the case is still being actively investigated. “This case will continue being investigated until the trial is over,” said Lt. Donny Burbrink. “We’re not gonna say we have everybody; we’re not gonna say we don’t have everybody.”
