Alabama A&M Sets Campus-wide Curfew After Fight on Campus

Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University has set a new campus-wide curfew after a fight on campus.

A new campus-wide curfew is being enforced at Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University after a fight took place on campus, officials said.

AAMU spokesman Jerome Saintjones told WHNT News 19 that an altercation between two people took place on campus Tuesday night. Saintjones said no weapons were involved, and the university took steps to ensure safety on campus.

University spokespeople did not confirm how many people were arrested, if any.

In an effort to reduce nighttime foot traffic on campus and to ensure safety, the university will be enforcing a curfew of 9 p.m., effective immediately, a spokesperson said in a statement. “Additionally, visitation at residence halls has been restricted, and everyone entering a residential facility must show their student identification,” they added.

Final exams for AAMU take place next week, and students will graduate May 4.

The AAMU Department of Public Safety is investigating the Tuesday night incident, and safety precautions will remain in place until further notice.
