Colorado Springs Academy Starts Security Upgrades During Spring Break

Colorado Springs school The Classical Academy is upgrading security on its three campuses during spring break.

Colorado Springs school The Classical Academy is upgrading security on its three campuses during spring break. The security upgrades will be funded with the $295,088 awarded to TCA as part of the state’s School Security Disbursement program.

According to TCA Communications Director Tisha Harris, the school will use the money to add and replace security cameras at its campuses and to add a safety film on all entrance windows.

“[The window film is] designed to crackle, and it will slow an intrusion down; delay the intruder,” Harris said.

Harris said that across the school’s three campuses, 43 security cameras will be replaced and 35 new cameras will be installed.

“We are also going to update our network so they can handle all the data from those new cameras and that was where the majority of our money came from,” Harris said.

The security projects had been on TCA’s priority list for a while.

“These projects will eventually have been done, but [the grant funding] just expedites getting these things done for us,” Harris said.

The upgrade work was set to begin the Monday of spring break, and Harris said the school hopes to have the work finished by summer break.

“Safety and security is one of our highest priorities at TCA, and this implementation is huge for us just to make our students and staff feel more secure,” Harris said.
