Branson Public Schools Increase Police Officers on Patrol

School officials said they aim to have a police officer present on every campus in the district. The officers help with student safety as well as building relationships between the police officers and students.

Branson Public Schools have added more police officers on patrol. The district now has an officer on-site at the Cedar Ridge campus and will soon add an officer at Buchanan, KY3 reports.

School officials said they aim to have a police officer present on every campus in the district. The officers help with student safety as well as building relationships between the police officers and students.

There are already school resource officers present at the Branson High School and Junior High through a partnership with the City of Branson. Now the two other campuses will be covered as well.

"We are always trying to make strides to improve our safety and the well-being of our students, so that's priority one," Superintendent Dr. Brad Swofford said.

The two new school resource officer positions are fully funded by the Public Safety Sales Tax passed by voters in 2017.

"It was part of our commitment to the community, that if they pass this tax, we would do certain things and this is one of those things," Sgt. Stanley Kauffman said.

Sgt. Kauffman said that school resource officers have to undergo a school resource training academy during the summer. Officers learn more techniques for skills like de-escalation, counseling and mentoring.
