A teacher shot himself in a classroom at Lithia Springs High School in Georgia just before classes started on Thursday, August 17.
According to the Douglass County School System spokesperson, the teacher was alone in the classroom when the shooting occurred at 7:15 a.m. There were no students in the classroom at the time of the incident and no one else was injured.
The teacher's name has not been released. There has been no information released on the condition of the teacher, but Douglas County School Superintendent said that he was married and had a child.
The school district cancelled classes for the day, as the school building is a live crime scene while police work to process the incident. It is unknown if students will be allowed back into the school Friday.
Police will most likely work on figuring out how a teacher was able to bring a loaded gun into the school before classes were set to resume after summer break. A review of security is sure to follow this incident.
