Hundreds of Security Cameras to be Installed on FAMU Campus

Florida A&M University is investing in its students' safety by installing hundreds of security cameras and making crosswalk improvements.

Over the next year, Florida A&M University students will see several safety improvements around the campus, including hundreds of new cameras and pedestrian enhancements.

The improvements are the result of the university’s annual evaluation and feedback from the community that was taken two years ago, reported WTXL Tallahassee.

By fall of next year, the university plans to have 760 new security cameras installed along with automatic door locks on all buildings.

"We will reevaluate it each year to make sure we are looking at the newest and the best and the brightest way to help with campus safety," said William Hudson Jr., Vice President of Student Affairs at FAMU to WTXL.

Besides building safety improvements, there will be new visible crosswalk signs, speed humps, fencing and license plate cameras.

"If you are violating any of the campus codes or traffic laws we are able to identify and monitor them," said Hudson Jr.

“I'm very appreciative of the crosswalk. I feel the added signs help drivers to know when to slow down," said Deasia Robinson, senior at FAMU. "Sometimes people forget they are on a campus and they don't pay attention to the students, so I think the signs add that extra safety."
