New Campus Security Platform Provides Immediate Location to Responders

ClearScholar Aware is a new mobile student engagement platform that improves safety technology at colleges – and helps campus police departments know immediately where a 911 caller is located.

With input from Butler University’s police, security and information technology departments, ClearScholar developed a new platform, called ClearScholar Aware, which allows campus police to know exactly where a 911 caller is located the second they make the call.

“The Aware product is a fantastic way for campus police departments to know immediately where a 911 caller is located. This allows police dispatch to get officers moving as quickly as possible to the aid of the caller,” said Eric Schmidt, Chief Security Officer at Butler University. “This technology also shows students and parents that the campus is working hard and leveraging technology for their safety.”

ClearScholar Aware provides more visibility into emergency calls through a student-facing mobile app that offers a real-time, dispatch center dashboard. The app then gives a precise GPS location on a map as well as a photo of the 911 caller. On-duty officers are also shown on the map, allowing the closest officers to respond first. The map can also be used by first responders by giving them real-time position of active cases and all on-duty security staff members.

“If a student does not feel safe on campus, it is unrealistic that they are going to be engaged or utilize university resources. Student health and safety is a building block for institutions ultimately achieving strong student engagement,” said Jason Konesco, CEO of ClearScholar. “The Aware Platform shows the promise of reducing call response time as well as adding in enhanced functionality to support campus police and security departments.”

ClearScholar Aware is offered as a standalone option for higher education institutions and as a component of a broader ClearScholar implementation.
