Auburn University Hires New Executive Director of Safety and Security

“The mission is a little different. In the FBI, the job was to keep the country safe. At the university, it will be my job to keep the campus, students and staff safe as well,” King said.

Auburn University’s new Executive Director of Campus Safety and Security is Kelvin King. King began the role on Oct. 1 after more than 27 years as an FBI Special Agent.

“The mission is a little different. In the FBI, the job was to keep the country safe. At the university, it will be my job to keep the campus, students and staff safe as well,” King said.

King worked at the Opelika FBI branch from 1996 to 2012. When asked in his interview why he was interested in Auburn, he called it a “destination location.”

King said he plans to observe current campus safety and security operations before making changes to policy.

“Today and moving forward, the immediate response is to soak up what we’re doing now,” King said.

He also wants the university to strengthen its bond with Auburn Police.

“I look forward to improving the relationship with Auburn police. You see we are co-located, we have campus safety and security along with Auburn Police Division,” King said.
