UNCC to Secure All Non-locking Classrooms Following Spring Shooting
In response to a classroom shooting in the spring, UNC Charlotte will add security measures that include equipping non-locking classrooms with kits to secure doors, the school’s chancellor said in a statement released Friday.

After a gunman entered a classroom at UNC Charlotte’s campus this past spring, the school’s chancellor said the university will be adding security measures.
One of those measures is making sure that all classrooms can be locked. By the end of this year, all non-locking rooms will have either a wedge to slide beneath doors that open inward or a piece of cut fire hose to slip over the door closer of doors that open outwardly, reported WFAE.
The university is in the process of searching for long-term solutions for locking campus doors.
Beginning Dec. 2, faculty, staff and students will be required to wear ID cards at UNC Charlotte's Center City campus.
Other efforts include videos that show how students should react and prepare if there is an active shooter and safety posters that are hung around campus.
Additionally, the campus plans to remember the victims on April 30, 2020 with a concert. All proceeds will go to the April 30 Remembrance Fund.
