Missouri School Safety Task Force Releases School Safety Report

Last year, Gov. Mike Parson signed an executive order to increase Missouri’s school safety by receiving recommendations from educators and the public on how best to ensure students’ safety. The report is now available.

The Missouri School Safety Task Force has released their report on how to improve safety at school across Missouri.

Gov. Mike Parson signed an executive order last year to get recommendations from educators and the public on how to increase and ensure school safety.

“As a grandfather and as a governor, I expect the students of our state to receive the best quality education. This includes keeping our schools as safe as possible,” Parson said. “We gave the task force a short timeline because we want schools to have the benefit of this report and strategic plan before the upcoming school year. We appreciate the Task Force’s efforts and look forward to reviewing its recommendations over the coming days”

According to the Task Force, the report consists of six public meetings across the state as well as input and recommendations that were received online.

The report’s recommendations included asking schools to focus on identifying potential threats before they happen, ensuring staff are up to date on mental health and behavior risk training and improving student/teacher relations, according to Fox Ozarks First. The Task Force also asked that school evaluate and update their security technology, which S.P.S. is already doing using ‘Prop S’ money, and create a high-quality emergency operations program.
