Illinois District to Install Shatter-Resistant Glass

The new glass should be installed during the summer and the project should be finished by the beginning of the next school year, according to Jason Edelheit, director of operations and finance for District 35.

Glencoe School District 35 will be installing shatter-resistant glass at the district’s three school buildings, the Chicago Tribune reported Friday.

Earlier this month, school board members approved a $1.23 million contract for the glass installation work. The new glass should be installed during the summer and the project should be finished by the beginning of the next school year, according to Jason Edelheit, director of operations and finance for District 35.

“In our ongoing efforts to maintain a safe and secure learning environment, these upgrades will enhance the safety of our facilities,” Edelheit said.

Summer school at Central School will take place as normal during the construction work, Edelheit said.

“We were happy with where the bids [for constructrion] came in,” said school board president Gary Ruben. “It was less than we anticipated, and the work is necessary and important.”

In addition, officials plan to add new flooring to the hallways and vestibule at the South and West campuses. They may also improve the exterior of the Central School main entrance in the future.
