Teen Arrested at Alaska School with Gun, Marijuana

The student was arrested and the Department of Juvenile Justice will handle the charges.

A student was arrested at Benny Benson Secondary School in Anchorage on Monday after a School Resource Officer discovered that the teen possessed a gun and marijuana.

According to Anchorage Police, the school resource officer was told about the marijuana by a staff member at about 9 a.m.

The officer discovered the handgun while questioning the student and immediately took it from the student.

The student was arrested and the Department of Juvenile Justice will handle the charges.

When asked whether the gun was loaded or the student had any specific plans to use it, Anchorage Police Department spokesperson Kendra Doshier said the investigation was ongoing.
