New Training Tools Available for National Campus Safety Awareness Month

Allied Universal and Clery Center unveil video-based roll call training tools during National Campus Safety Awareness Month in September.

Allied Universal is proud to announce the roll out of a series of video-based roll call training tools for campus public safety personnel in partnership with Clery Center, a national, non-profit training and policy organization dedicated to creating safer campus communities.

The First Step: Public Safety Roll Call Video Series, created by Clery Center, consists of a suite of free 5-10 minute videos with accompanying companion guides. Made possible by the joint partnership announced earlier this year, the roll-call training program for campus public safety and security professionals was slated for release in time for National Campus Safety Awareness Month in September.

“It’s our pleasure to be able to make these videos available for the benefit of public safety personnel to keep students safe everywhere,” says Jonathan Kassa, Director of Higher Education. “The fact that we are able to partner with the foremost authority on campus safety, the Clery Center, at a time when institutions are gearing up for a new academic year makes it more meaningful.”

Alison Kiss, Clery Center executive director, reflects on the impetus that sparked the partnership. “This training collaboration came about as a response to the need for quality and consistency in campus security officer training. We are grateful for the willingness of Allied Universal to be a part of the solution. We hope these videos spark important campus conversations on how officers can best connect with and support members of their own unique campus communities and open the door to more in-depth training on these critical topics.”

The training modules, building on Allied Universal’s Higher Education Academy, feature adult learning principles and quizzes that assess mastery of the subject matter. Essential campus environment topics cover:

  • The role of Campus Security Authorities under the Clery Act
  • Sexual assault and higher education law
  • Trauma informed response
  • Communicating with the campus community
  • Being an essential part of the fabric of campus culture and
  • The importance of campus public safety officers in the broader campus community.
