Texas Teen Arrested After Allegedly Making Threats to Shoot a School Up

A teen was overheard making threats to shoot his school up. Although a gun was not present at the time he was searched, he was charged with a felony.

A high school student in Texas was arrested last week after threatening to shoot Terrell High School up.

Terrell ISD police chief, Gary Monk, told inForney.com. 17-year-old Jaelon Gipson said he was going to retrieve a handgun from his backpack and start shooting.

Overhearing his threats, students reported his gun comments to the school and police were called to the scene around 12:41 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the outlet.

"He was gesturing, reaching in and acting like he was pulling out a gun," Monk added.

Police did not find a gun in his backpack, however, in Texas it is a third-degree felony  if "the person intentionally exhibits, uses, or threatens to exhibit or use a firearm.”

Gipson is currently being held on a $335,000 bond, which includes charges for assaulting a public servant, criminal mischief, exhibiting a firearm on campus or school bus, resisting arrest and possession of under 2 ounces of marijuana.

The marijuana was found at the time of his backpack search.
