Corpus Christi District Upgrading Entrance Security This Summer

Corpus Christi Independent School District is adding extra security measures to the entrances of its middle and elementary school campuses this summer.

In light of recent incidents of school violence, Corpus Christi Independent School District is increasing safety and security on its campuses this summer by adding more security features to the entrances of its 46 middle and elementary school campuses.

The district upgraded security at the entrances of its high school campuses two years ago.

Once the entrances have been updated, visitors will enter a school building via the front door. When they step inside, they will be in a space that is electronically locked and controlled by staff in the main office.

A staff member in the front office will ask for the visitor’s ID, which will then be scanned before the visitor is allowed through the locked doors into the school itself.

CCISD schools will also receive new and improved video surveillance systems. All fences will be locked during the school day to secure the campus and its playgrounds.

The security project will cost about $10 million, funded by the 20-18 bond approved by voters.

The upgrades to CCISD school lobbies should be finished by the end of August, and the enhanced security cameras will be implemented by the end of the year.
