The Plymouth-Shiloh Local School district has received a $12,217 grant from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) to update security at its elementary school.
The school district plans to use the funds to install 18 indoor and outdoor security cameras in and around its elementary school building.
"It was something we had discussed that we needed to do right away anyways," said Gavyn Bazley, Plymouth-Shiloh Local School district's treasurer. "The security system out there, it started to need replaced."
The current system, Bazley said, was “a little outdated and becoming not serviceable.”
The grant will pay for 75 percent of the total cost, according to Bazley. He estimates the district itself will pay about $4,000.
"We are able to do everything we planned to do," Bazley said. "We probably could've tackled it anyways, but it was good to save money."
The grant comes from an expanded safety grant program the Ohio BWC launched last year. The BWC has allocated $4 million for Pre-K to 12th grade safety upgrades for fiscal years 2019 and 2020.
“We want to improve workplace safety across Ohio, and that’s especially important in workplaces that house and educate our children, the future of this state,” said Stephanie B. McCloud, BWC administrator and CEO.
